My
Story: I was chained in the backyard on a 4 foot chain with only
a hole dug in the dirt for shelter. I was seized from my former "owners"
after Animal Control came back to make sure I was given shelter, they
was how skinny I was and were horrified. I was so grateful for Brighton's
Animal Control officer for taking me away.
When I was taken from the home,
my former "owners" told Animal Control they did not think
they were doing anything wrong. HO-BO Care immediately took me to the
vet's office where I received so much fluid and nutrients through and
IV because I was so weak.

4:42 PM-- The Brighton
Police Department is finishing up their investigation and the Colorado
State Veterinarian's Office will be taking on the prosecution case in
regards to Julian. KUSA/Channel 9 News has also called twice today to
give their condolences, to make sure that this will not be forgotten
and to let us know that they had also contacted the Police Department:
From the www.9News.com
website and as reported on the 5 PM Newscast:
BRIGHTON - Charges will be filed
in connection with badly malnourished dog that was rescued from a home
in Brighton, but did not survive.
Julian was an 11-month-old boxer.
He had been chained to a post with virtually nothing to eat. He died
late Friday night, despite efforts from the HO-BO Care Boxer Rescue.
The organization volunteered its
time and raised money for Julians care. Brighton
police are investigating and the Colorado State Veterinarian's Office
will be taking on the prosecution case.

-- UPDATE FROM HO-BO CARE
Last night
around 10PM Julian left this world of pain and suffering.
HO-BO Care tried everything to help him know that someone cared for
him. Danielle and Patrick, his foster home, gave him a chance to know
what it was like to live in a home, have food in his bowl and a couch
and a human to lay on. The thought that a dog could be treated this
way with no prosecution against his former "owners" is sickening
and tells me that our animal cruelty laws in Colorado are not strong
enough.
Thank you to everyone for the donations, notes of encouragement and
your prayers. I meant a lot to HO-BO Care and especially, Marita, to
know that there are good pet owners and people who have hearts.

-- UPDATE FROM HO-BO CARE
Julian's foster family was very worried that he was not
putting on more weight and that he was not eating as well as he needs
to be, so Julian has been readmitted to the vet's office. We are all
very worried about Julian's condition.
Julian's white blood count is very low and he will be receiving a blood
transfusion today.

-- UPDATE FROM JULIAN'S FOSTER FAMILY:
Julian is doing quite well. When he came to our house last week, he
was so obviously weak, he didnt have any muscle strength or any
kind of endurance. And of course, he wasnt house trained. Hes
been here a week now, and hes gained a couple of pounds. His progress
is slow, but steady. He gets to go for a walk every day with his foster
sisters and is working on those muscles. We put him outside regularly,
and he has just recently started asking to go out, by standing at your
feet and not moving. He eats a lot and his stomach is still getting
used to having food in it. We feed him 4 small meals a day. And best
of all, he is the biggest cuddler Ive ever known. He loves sleeping
on something soft like a pillow or blanket and he loves to curl up beside
someone. If I sit on the floor, he will come over and flop his whole
body down in my lap. He is very well behaved. He does have a long way
to go, though. He is still visibly weak, but he gets excited when we
pull out the leashes to go for a walk. We havent begun any real
training with him yet, besides housebreaking. We just want to concentrate
on getting weight back on him.
Thank you to so many people for your
donations towards Julian's treatment. And to Sheri Crespin for the following
poem:
Look
at the eyes so kind and sweet
Look at the eyes so forgiving and bleak
Look at the eyes begging for a forever home
Look at the eyes saying will I always be alone?
Left in the back yard a hole for a bed
Four feet of chain to seal my fate
I caunt remember when I last ate
Thank God my heroes didnt come to late
A`m I mean am I vicious?no way!
My vets say I`m friendly and sweet
Because you see unlike humans
We Boxers dont hate
Thank you Marita, for Boxer rescue
that you thought up
Thank you Marita because of you and the rest
I know it will all work out for the best

Now that I'm home,
bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm . . . Yes there
it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my
baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
